Joe Hoover-Gbadyu (Co-Founder)

I am a Liberian with a BSc in Management from the Cuttington University and currently pursuing MBA in management at the same University.

I began my career as a lecturer and rose to the position of Assistant Director at a local Community College in Monrovia. Later, I moved into humanitarian work serving with the Don Bosch Homes, Save the Children, Catholic Relief Services and now with USAID/Liberia as a Food Security Officer.

My desire to establish this program stemmed from my experiences during the war and travels in and out of the country. During these times I worked with people in difficult circumstances. The situations were appalling, especially when people could not feed themselves, eat decent food, sleep in secured places and fell warm; desire for education was thwarted because of a visual cycle of poverty, unemployment, limited opportunities and social injustices.

With education being power and the best tool for the new generation, I denied myself the luxuries of life to provide educational support to children around Liberia. Through this initiative, others with similar vision joined me to sustain this humanitarian spirit using their resources and moral support to educate the children of Liberia. I will offer special thanks and appreciation to my American colleagues, Stan Stalla, Carolyne Hughes, Kim Ouillette, Maya French and some students of the High School in Belfast, Maine

With over 45% of the 3.5m population of Liberia being illiterate and the youth being more than 50% of this population, we strongly believe that educating a child is educating a nation. Two Hundred and Fifty ($250.00) United States dollars can support a secondary education in Liberia annually. We therefore count on your generous contribution, to help save the future of a new generation.

Kim-Ouillette Kim Ouillette, Belfast Maine (Co-Founder)

I am 19 years old and I am a 2009 graduate of Belfast Area High School. I currently am a sophomore at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. In my free time I like to hike, camp, ski, and play soccer.

I founded the Liberian Education Fund in 2006 with help of Stan Stalla and Joe Hoover, and I hope to help the program grow in the future because I believe that education is the surest way to break the cycle of poverty.

Maya French, Belfast Maine (President)

I am 17 years old and I am a senior at Belfast Area High School. Things I love in life are playing music (especially violin), traveling, running, and sailing.

I joined the Liberian Education Fund initially because of what an amazing cause the organization is trying to accomplish. One of my long-term goals is to help people, I am thankful to already be supporting the education of students my age. Education has opened doors for me so far, and I hope that it will do the same for our scholarship recipients.

I am 16 years old and I am a junior at Belfast Area High School. I love to hike, dance, act, and go on adventures. I am part of the Liberian Education Fund because I want to give back to the world, because it's been so kind to me. LEF goes above and beyond giving back to the world. It provides students in Africa with an education, as well as educating people right in the U.S., who might not even know about Liberia, or any world issue for that matter, otherwise.
